These next three blog posts are photo tips – however, they are geared towards posing yourself and others to create a more flattering shot! Who doesn’t want to look their best in a photo?! Here are two tips to consider before you step in front of the camera…

 Tip #1 – The Right Angle

The way you position yourself – or your subject – can make a huge difference in their appearance. Avoid standing straight on to the camera. The classic model’s pose is to turn your body 3/4ths toward the camera. This allows for a much more flattering shot with a lot less attention drawn to “broad” shoulder/body pose. Additional tip…do something with your hands! Instead of just standing there, put them in your pockets, cross your arms, or put your arm on your hip. Here’s some visual examples…..

 Tip #2 – Your Smile

Your facial expression is very important! Whatever mood you’re trying to portray – happy, sad, silly….this tip is specifically for your casual smile. Most people do the super-cheesy grin or even chuckle with their mouth open – this can be cute. However, try not to clench your teeth while smiling and instead keep your mouth slightly open and smile without showing too much of your gums is typically most flattering. Also, keep your tongue behind your teeth slightly touching the roof of your mouth…this can help tighten your neck too!

We especially loved this photo because of the thought and delivery put into this shot. The sun setting in the background and care-free child in a gorgeous nature environment.  Such a priceless shot of a kiddo you will cherish forever!

“This photo is for the category Everyday Life. Part of my everyday life is capturing the flowers in my home and garden. I enjoy macro photography and try to grab a photo how I enjoy the flower in my mind while doing dishes or out in the yard weeding. This is a white bleeding heart from my garden framed by other hearts on the stem. Thank you.”

The simplicity and beauty captured within this shot is breathtaking. Sometimes the best way to have a new perspective is to get in close – the closer the better! We love it, Sarah!
